Semiconductor Investments

For decades now, the team at Opus Capital has had great success investing in semiconductor ventures and serving in management roles at such companies as EFI. We want to help start more successful ventures, in partnership with entrepreneurs who see opportunities before they exist.

Previous investments by the Opus Capital team include:

EFI

Electronics for Imaging (NASDAQ: EFII) was founded in 1989 by Efi Arazi, today an internationally-known technology entrepreneur. Today more than 12 million users worldwide depend on EFI's Fiery technology for precision color digital printing. We were involved in EFI's earliest stages, in 1992, leading the company's only venture round. Fourteen years later, our relationship with the world leader in digital imaging and print management solutions remains strong; in fact former EFI Chairman and CEO Dan Avida is an Opus general partner and Gill Cogan continues to serve on the company's board of directors.

Galileo

When Avigdor Willenz, who worked for an EFI supplier, had a great idea for a new company, he came to us to talk it over. A brilliant chip designer, Willenz was planning to enter into familiar terrain with his new chip. Instead, we worked with him to identify Ethernet switching as a target application—a revolutionary concept in 1996. We invested in Galileo Technology, an Israeli-based company that grew to be second largest Ethernet chip company in the world and a widely recognized leader in digital communications systems for computer networks. In 2001, Galileo was acquired by Marvell Technology Group (NASDAQ: MRVL) for $2.3 billion, marking the third largest corporate merger in the nation's history.
