Software Investments

At Opus Capital, we're excited about being part of new software markets as the industry takes a giant step forward. And we'll draw on our deep expertise in this area to help entrepreneurs in any way possible.

Previous investments by the Opus Capital team include:

Genesys

Genesys (NASDAQ: GCTI), a pioneer in computer-telephony integration (CTI), was founded in 1990 on the premise that companies could reap substantial benefits from bringing computers and telecommunications together to provide better service to customers. When the entrepreneurs approached us for an investment in 1996, they had been running their company on a shoestring for a number of years. We saw the opportunity ahead, and served Genesys as the sole venture investors and as close advisors over the years, including seeing the company through its IPO in June 1997. In 2000, Alcatel (NYSE: ALA) acquired Genesys for $1.5 billion in a move consistent with Alcatel's strategy of targeting high-growth telecommunications areas.

Vantive

Founded in 1990 by Roger Sippl, founder of Informix, and Stephen Goldsworthy, VP of Engineering at Informix, Vantive (NASDAQ: VNTV) was one of the first companies to automate customer relationships through software. Brought in by Sippl, we invested in Vantive in 1992. We also counseled the company as it built the management team, bringing in John Luongo as CEO. In 1995 Vantive went public, returning to its investors many times more than the original investment. Five years later Vantive was acquired by PeopleSoft (now part of Oracle Software) for $433 million.
