Sanford Robertson pioneered the creation of the West Coast technology banking industry in the late 1960s, and has remained one of the industry’s most renowned participants. Sanford is a principal with Francisco Partners, a $2.5 billion technology buyout fund. Prior to founding Francisco Partners, Sanford was the founder and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Robertson, Stephens & Company, a leading technology investment bank which he formed in 1978 and sold to BankAmerica in 1998. Sanford was also the founder of Robertson, Coleman, Siebel & Weisel, later renamed Montgomery Securities, another prominent technology investment bank. Sanford has had significant financing involvement in over 500 growth technology companies, including 3Com Corporation, America Online Inc., Applied Materials, Inc., Ascend Communications Inc., Dell Computer Corporation, Siebel Systems, Inc., and Sun Microsystems. Sanford serves on the Board of Directors of Dolby Laboratories, Pain Therapeutics, and Salesforce.com. He holds BBA and MBA degrees from the University of Michigan.
