John M. Thompson
Chairman of the Board, TD Bank Financial Group
John Thompson is Chairman of the Board of TD Bank Financial Group. He is also the recently retired Vice Chairman of the IBM Board of Directors, where he was responsible for IBM’s business strategy and oversight of the company’s worldwide technology and manufacturing direction. John worked at IBM from 1966 to 2004. From 1995 until 2002, he was the Group Executive responsible for IBM’s worldwide software business and from 1993 to 1995, ran IBM’s worldwide server business. From 1991 to 1993, he was IBM’s Corporate Vice President of Marketing, charged with developing IBM’s strategy for entering the services business. Prior to this, John held a variety of roles at IBM, including CEO of IBM Canada, Ltd. John is a Director of Thomson Reuters Corporation and of Philips Electronics NV, a Trustee of the Hospital for Sick Children and Chancellor of the University of Western Ontario. He holds a degree in Engineering Science and has completed executive programs at The University of Western Ontario and the Kellogg Graduate School of Business at Northwestern University.
